As summer temperatures hit mid-90s, cooling centers open throughout Hampton Roads

As temperatures surpass 90 in Hampton Roads, cooling centers across the region have opened to aid those who may be vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield reported that hot and humid conditions will prevail in the region through Wednesday. Though no heat records have been broken yet, highs Tuesday will be in the upper 90s to around 100 — with the maximum heat index averaging between 105-115 degrees across the region.

Norfolk

The city has opened several cooling centers at libraries throughout the city. They will remain open until 8 p.m.
