Summer's over: California colleges and universities start earlier than you think
The end of summer is just around the corner and schools are preparing to reopen. Across California, public and private colleges have different start dates. Here's when classes begin for the University of California campuses, Cal State system and other private institutions.
When do University of California classes start?
Two of the nine schools in the University of California system begin on Aug. 28.
UC Berkeley and UC Merced start on Aug. 28
UC Davis starts on Sept. 25
UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz begin on Sept. 26
When do California State Universities start?
Three of the 23 schools in the California State system begin on Aug. 20.
Cal State East Bay, Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Sonoma start Aug. 20
Cal State Fresno, Cal State Maritime Academy, Cal State San Jose and Cal State Stanislaus begin Aug. 21
Cal Poly Pomona begins Aug. 22
Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Channel Islands, Cal State Chico, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Sacramento, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Diego, Cal State San Francisco and Cal State San Marcos start Aug. 26
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo begins Sept. 23
When do major California private colleges start?
Many of the largest private schools in the state will return beginning Aug. 26.
Azusa Pacific University, Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine, University of the Pacific and University of Southern California start Aug. 26
Stanford begins Sept. 23
