Suspect in custody after deadly Lee County shooting, investigation ongoing

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) – A suspect is in custody and facing a murder allegation following a deadly shooting over the weekend, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed to WRBL.

Sheriff Jones says an altercation led to the deadly shooting early Sunday morning, around 12:30 a.m., near Walnut Street, south of Opelika. Authorities say a woman called 911 saying she had a gunshot victim in her vehicle. She drove the victim, later identified as 31-year-old Victor Lewis Morgan of Birmingham, to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, where deputies immediately began life-saving measures. An ambulance transported Morgan to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m. on Sunday, September 8.

Sheriff Jones says 32-year-old Randall Pearson is charged with Murder in connection with the shooting. Sheriff Jones confirmed the arrest Sunday morning, though further details regarding the motive and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.This is a developing story, and WRBL will provide updates as more details become available.
