Suspect faces murder charge in Fort Worth shooting that killed 2 on July 4: jail records

A suspect has been arrested in connection to the July 4 shooting on Castleman Street in Fort Worth that killed two people, according to Fort Worth jail records.

Toderick Rogers, 21, was taken into custody Thursday on a murder charge.

The arrest comes two weeks after the shooting killed Tasha Hymond, 39, and Marcus Martin Jr., 19, and injured at least two other people.

Officers responded to an area near Castleman Street and Wiman Drive in east Fort Worth that night when a caller reported heavy gunfire in the residential neighborhood, where a holiday celebration was being held.

Gunshots were fired into the crowd at a block party consisting of 200 to 300 people, according to Fort Worth police. Some of those people were popping fireworks in the direction of residents’ homes, police said.

According to Hymond’s fiance, Tommy Howard, the shooting began after drivers started doing donuts in the intersection of Castleman and Comanche Streets.

A police report shows more than 100 fired casings and live rounds from several types of guns were found at the scene of the shooting.

Homicide detectives have said that they believe multiple shooters are responsible for the gunfire and are working to determine their identities.

Two additional victims were taken to hospitals, but were expected to survive, police said.

Police asked that anyone with information should contact Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477 or www.469TIPS.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
