Suspect in fatal St. Louis County shooting arrested, faces murder charge

NORWOOD COURT, Mo.  — The suspect accused of shooting and killing a man on July 8 is now in jail. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued “at large” charges for Unice Hobby IV, 25, of Belleville, Illinois. He is currently being held in another county without bond. The victim is identified as Dennis Cooperwood, Jr., 20, of St. Louis, Missouri.

Court documents state that Hobby and Cooperwood were seen at the Shell station at Lucas and Hunt. They both got out of a vehicle. When Cooperwood turned away, Hobby begins to fire. Police say that Cooperwood was shot multiple times and later died at the hospital.

Investigators obtained surveillance video from a nearby business that showed the suspect’s vehicle plates. The plates were traced to a vehicle registered to Hobby.
