Suspect vehicle fleeing from DPS causes collision on 15th Avenue and Jefferson Street

A driver fleeing from police caused a collision on 15th Avenue and Jefferson Street, according to the Arizona Department of Safety.

Around noon, officials said a DPS trooper attempted to stop the vehicle for expired registration and for having no seatbelts. The driver of the vehicle then drove through a stop light going the wrong way on Jefferson Street until their vehicle crashed into a light pole. The driver and passenger then fled the scene on foot.

The driver was found in a shed nearby and was taken into custody by police, officials said. The driver was not identified as of Monday afternoon. Charges the driver faces include felony flight and trespassing, with more pending, officials said.

A passenger was transported to the hospital after they were injured in the crash. The passenger was not identified as of Monday afternoon.

Police blocked off roads entering a neighborhood as of 2:30 p.m. on Monday just west of 19th Avenue.

The situation was still being investigated by DPS and the Phoenix Police Department, officials said.
