Suspects in Rite Aid Pharmacy robbery in Ashland in custody after pursuit to Columbus

Several suspects in a robbery at 7:34 p.m. Wednesday at Rite Aid Pharmacy, 419 Claremont Ave., Ashland, were in custody after a pursuit that ended on Interstate 270 near Cemetery Road in Columbus.

Ashland Police responded to a robbery at Rite Aid where witnesses said three males fled the scene on foot and were picked up by a Silver Ford Escape, according to a news release from Ashland Police Chief David Lay on Thursday afternoon.

Police initiated a pursuit of a Silver Ford Escape traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1600 block of Claremont Avenue, prompting the chase.

During the pursuit, the suspects threw empty pill bottles from the vehicle, according to the news release.

The pursuit continued across Ashland County and onto Interstate 71 southbound. The Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol joined the pursuit on I71, near Ohio 13. OSP continued the chase until it ended on I-270 near Cemetery Road, Lay said.

With assistance from surrounding agencies, suspects were taken into custody and were being held at the Ashland County Jail pending review of charges by the Prosecutor's Office.

The five suspects were all between the ages of 23 and 29, and had addresses in Huber Heights, Trotwood and Dayton.

The investigation is ongoing.
