Tallahassee viral video: Man clings to hood of car as it peels away from Sweet Shop
Bystanders were stunned as they stood and watched a man cling to the hood of a car as it whizzed past Florida State University's staple café, the Sweet Shop.
Over the last week, thousands of people have watched a video posted on Barstool FSU's social media pages in disbelief as a scene straight out of an action movie played out in the streets of Tallahassee.
A white sedan is seen speeding out of the café's parking lot onto West Jefferson Street with a man hanging on to the hood. The video ends right as the car makes an abrupt right turn onto a side street.
Buried amid dozens of joking remarks, other witnesses from the day offered details of what led to the events depicted in the viral video.
One commenter said he saw the whole thing and that the man driving the car got upset because his Nutella croissant didn't have enough Nutella, and his frappe was taking too long. Frustrated, the man "snatched the three drinks and whatever food was left on the counter and dashed through the door."
"Sweet Shop guy hopped the counter so fast and followed him out the door," the commenter wrote. "I think they were yelling some type of slurs at each other but it was unclear. Next thing you know, Sweet Shop man was laying on the hood of the guy’s car, and the guy drove off."
Several comments note that the man hanging onto the car is the Sweet Shop's owner. The Tallahassee Police Department said it was unable to confirm the identity of anyone in the video, but the video depicts a portion of an incident that is under investigation.
A TPD spokesperson told the Tallahassee Democrat that officers responded to the café the afternoon of June 24 due to a report of a physical disturbance.
"A suspect entered the business and stole a tip jar," TPD said. "An argument ensued with staff, resulting in a physical altercation. The suspect fled the scene."
The incident is an open and active investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time. The Sweet Shop's owner declined to comment on the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
