Tampa police ask for tips after man killed in shooting near elementary school

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police are asking for tips after a man was shot and killed near an elementary school early Monday.

Tampa police said they were called to the 6500 block of Julie Street around 2 a.m. after someone reported that shots were fired. The shooting location is less than a half-mile from Foster Elementary School.

When officers arrived, they found a man in his 40s with upper body trauma, He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators said they are working to determine the cause of the shooting. No arrests have been made.

Police said the shooting did not appear to be a random act.
