Tarrant Area Food Bank announces $32k grant for Ready to Learn school nutrition program

Jul. 31—Students heading back to school soon are expected to learn on a full stomach thanks to a grant announced by the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

The organization fighting hunter in 13 North Central Texas counties, including Parker and Palo Pinto, has announced a $32,000 grant it will apply to its in-school market program.

"This donation will have an immediate impact on feeding the community with our Ready To Learn School Market program as kids go back to school in the coming weeks," food bank President and CEO Julie Buckner said. "Tarrant Area Food Bank is so appreciative of this grant money from the Morgan Stanley Foundation during a critical time when kids and families are struggling in the summer."

One in four local children face daily food insecurity, the inability to secure adequate nourishment, according to the food bank.

The number is one in six for adults.

Tarrant Area Food Bank is one of 44 similar nonprofit groups participating in the foundation's Feeding America partnership.

Morgan Stanley has added $8 million to Feeding America over the next four years, bringing the total to more than $50 million since 2009.
