Tazewell County man indicted on child abuse and neglect charges

Jul. 16—tazewell, va. — A grand jury has indicted a Tazewell County man on multiple felonies including child cruelty, child neglect and strangulation, the county sheriff announced Monday.

Jason David Osborne, 46, of Pounding Mill, Va., has been indicted in a six-count felony indictment out of the recent Tazewell County Grand Jury, Sheriff Brian Hieatt said.

The charges include four counts of child cruelty/neglect/abuse, one count strangulation of another and one count of discharge firearm or missiles in/at occupied building unlawfully, Hieat said. These incidents range from Dec. 1, 2012 through Dec. 16, 2019.

"This has been a very long and taxing investigation, our detective and patrol divisions have worked tirelessly to ensure a good case was presented to the grand jury," Hieatt said.

Commonwealth's Attorney Chris Plaster said multiple agencies worked on the investigation.

"Our Victim Witness program, in conjunction with the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, has put in a tremendous number of hours working with the victims of Mr. Osborne's crimes," Plaster said. "There is still plenty of work to do, but we are on the right track for getting these victims the justice they deserve."
