I-Team identifies suspect in murder of Cleveland officer

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team has uncovered more about the suspect arrested for the murder of a Cleveland Police officer on duty Thursday morning.

A charge of aggravated murder has been filed against 24-year-old Delawnte Hardy. He has now been booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail.

The complaint simply says, “at 1510 E. 80th PL Cleveland, OH, Delawnte Hardy did shoot and kill” the officer.

The shooting happened early Thursday morning. At a brief news conference, the Cleveland Police Chief didn’t get into many specifics of the incident, but she said the suspect had been wanted for felony assault, and he fired multiple shots.

Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter, whose identity police revealed Thursday afternoon, was a four-year veteran of the police department, according to a news release.

He was 27 years old, the FOX 8 I-Team reported.

Hardy is due to appear in Cleveland Municipal Court on Friday morning.
