Teen arrested in Saginaw shooting in June that left Uber driver critically injured

An 18-year-old was arrested in the shooting that critically injured a North Texas Uber driver in June, Tarrant County jail records show.

Saginaw police arrested James Wallick on Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The arrest comes about a month after the Uber driver was shot in the back of his neck.

According to Saginaw police, officers responded to a call on the evening of June 24 about shots fired in the 200 block of East Bailey-Boswell Road. They found a wrecked Nissan Sentra and a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his neck, police said.

He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition.

The victim told police he was operating the vehicle as an Uber ride share. He had picked up three men when another vehicle drove up to him and the occupants of that car started firing at the Sentra, according to police.

Authorities later found the suspect vehicle abandoned a few blocks away, but no arrests were made at the time.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and one of the passengers in the Uber was the intended target.

Wallick is being held at the Tarrant County Jail on a $21,500 bond.

Saginaw police have not yet responded to the Star-Telegram’s request for details surrounding the arrest.
