Teen gets stuck in Reno County ditch, man shoots at her, sheriff’s office says

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A Reno County man is in jail after a shooting Saturday night. Investigators say the man allegedly shot at a teenager who got her vehicle stuck in a ditch and at the girl’s father, who was trying to help her get unstuck.

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting call came in around 7:45 from the area of Trail West Road and Langdon Road, west of Plevna.

A father told investigators that his daughter was following him home from working in the field and got her vehicle stuck in the ditch.

A man who lives in the area allegedly fired four shots from a .22 caliber revolver directly toward the father and daughter and another two shots from a long rifle, the sheriff’s office said.

The father got the vehicle out of the ditch and called 911. There were no injuries reported.

Investigators said they learned that the father and the alleged shooter know each other and do not get along.

Authorities booked the alleged shooter into jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated child endangerment.

The sheriff’s office says the case is still under investigation.
