Texarkana families gather in parks for Labor Day fun

TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KSHV) – Great weather and a day off of work and school was the perfect recipe for a day at the park on Labor Day.

“Very rarely get a day off of work so I thought I’d bring the kids out to the park. Such a beautiful day,” said Robert.

Two Texarkana parks in particular were popular for family and friends on the Labor Day holiday Monday.

“We’re going to wear out the kids here and then go eat and be done,” said Joseph.

At Spring Lake Park parents brought their kids to spend the day at the playground or stay cool at the splash pad.

Minden remembers former mayor, community leader Joe Cornelius Sr.

“Well, it’s free and gets the kids out of the house. They don’t like sitting up in the house all day and so we decided to come up here and let them enjoy it,” said Lauren

Bringle Lake Park East was a popular spot too.

“I just love nature and it’s a beautiful day and I have the day off so,” said Melissa.

A lot of parents were happy to let their kids run or bike around while they had a cookout.

“We are cooking out, just hanging out, letting the kids ride their bikes, not in the street,” said Tiffany.

The park goers said it was the perfect day for fresh air, food, and great company.

“It’s just such a nice day, like the sun is out and we just wanted to enjoy Labor Day with our friends and family here,” said Anna.

“It’s nice to come out during the sunny days and it’s just nice to have a picnic and kind of take pictures and just have a good time with friends,” said Alexis.
