Three in custody after suspicious transactions and foot chase

SCRANTON — Three people are in custody after police officers were alerted to suspicious bank transactions Friday at Community Bank on Davis Street, and other bank locations, according to a Scranton Police department news release.

At about 3 p.m. on Friday, police were alerted to a man who attempted a transaction inside the Davis Street location of the bank.

Staff told officers that, when they asked the man for details about the identification he provided, he struggled to provide details and they became suspicious.

Staff there became aware there had been similar suspicious transactions at other locations in the city, police said.

Police spoke with witnesses outside the bank who noticed a car with New Jersey plates acting suspiciously in the parking lot.

Officers said the man then entered the vehicle and drove off with passengers inside, but police immediately identified the vehicle and stopped it.

As an officer was speaking with one of the occupants, the vehicle fled toward Moosic, the release stated.

Three occupants of the vehicle then fled into the a wooded area near Montage Mountain Road and Interstate 81.

The three suspects were taken into custody, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, there are multiple arrests pending, the release concludes.
