Husband accused of killing wife, child, in-laws in Alameda shooting identified

ALAMEDA, Calif. (KRON) — A suspect who police believe shot and killed his wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and 6-year-old son Wednesday is in custody, according to the Alameda Police Department. A second 1-year-old son was also shot and remains in the hospital in critical condition, police said Thursday.

According to jail records, the suspect is 54-year-old Shane Killian, whose occupation is listed as a welder. Killian is currently being held in Santa Rita Jail.

Police were called to the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road Wednesday night after a caller said their neighbor had been shot. Alameda police found multiple gunshot victims at the home, including children.

Three victims, two adults and one 6-year-old child, were found dead at the scene. Two other victims, a 1-year-old and an adult, were transported to the hospital.

On Thursday, Alameda PD confirmed that a third adult had died.

Multiple firearms and significant evidence were also recovered at the scene, police said.

“These are the actions of a coward,” Alameda PD Chief of Police Nishant Joshi said at a news conference Thursday. Police are calling the shooting a “tragic domestic incident.”

The police chief said all the victims were shot inside the house. The father-in-law, after being shot, walked to a neighbor’s house for help before succumbing to his injuries.

There is no threat to the public at this time, police said. Officers remained on the scene Thursday collecting additional details.
