One dead, six wounded in separate New Orleans shootings

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating separate shootings that left one person dead, and six others wounded on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to a call of a shooting at the intersection of South Solomon and Baudin streets around 2:45 a.m., where they found four women who had been shot.

NOPD officials said a fifth victim, a 29-year-old woman, arrived at a hospital around 2:45 a.m. in a private car.

According to police, two parties, including the five women, got into a fight at a business in the 4100 block of S. Carrollton Avenue and began to leave in their vehicle when an unknown person shot at them.

NOPD investigators said the car then crashed into a fire hydrant and flipped at the intersection of Baudin and South Solomon streets.

According to the NOPD, the 29-year-old woman died at the hospital and the other four women were treated at the scene by EMS.

The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Orleans Parish coroner identified the woman as Raven Francis.

About 10 minutes later, NOPD officials said officers responded to a second shooting in the 7800 block of Lacombe Street around 2:55 a.m.

At the scene, officers said they found a female with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the NOPD, a man and a woman were sitting in their car when an unidentified person began shooting at them.

They said the woman tried to leave the scene and the man drove away.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to a third shooting shortly after the second in the 10800 block of Hayne Boulevard, where they found a man suffering with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to NOPD investigators, the shootings on Lacombe Street and Hayne Boulevard are “believed to be related.”
