Tow truck valued at $137,000 recovered in Smith County theft case
SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Two men have been arrested and another has an outstanding arrest warrant in a Smith County theft case involving an attempted ATM theft.
Officials said that through the course of the ongoing investigation, a reported stolen pickup truck and a tow truck valued at $137,000 were recovered.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators were assigned to the case after it was reported on Dec. 7 and through leads, obtained an arrest warrant for felony theft for Jacob Tadlock, 28, and a corresponding search warrant for his home.
Officials went to his Tyler home on Feb. 27, where they reported that Tadlock ran when he saw uniformed authorities and “chased into his residence where he locked himself inside of the bathroom. He was taken into custody a very short time later.”
The search warrant was conducted where the sheriff’s office said the pickup was found inside the shop area and other items were found and seized as evidence.
Tadlock was booked into the Smith County Jail for theft of property where his bond was set at $250,000. Arrest warrants for felony theft were also issued for Nicolas Burkhart, 38, and Jeremy Erwin, 38, after authorities said more information and evidence was gathered.
Erwin was already in custody on unrelated warrants, and Burkhart is still outstanding on his theft warrant.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators found information that links Tadlock and Burkhart to the theft of a now recovered tow truck that was “subsequently used in the attempted theft of an ATM which was reported to the Tyler Police Department.”
The theft of the tow truck and attempted ATM theft are both being actively investigated by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Division.
