‘Tragic’: Family dog dies after accidentally being trapped in car

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WJW) — Georgia first responders were unable to save a beloved family pet over the weekend, after the dog had inadvertently gotten inside a vehicle.

The Tybee Island Police Department said they responded to a call Saturday at about 1:30 p.m. from a distraught family on vacation with an animal in need of medical attention.

Upon investigation, police said they learned two kids had gone out to the family vehicle to retrieve something that morning, not realizing their small dog had followed them and hopped inside the hot car.

Some time later, the family realized the dog was missing and began searching. Once found, the dog was reportedly in the “in the midst of a medical crisis,” police reported.

“While this event is tragic, the responding officers determined it to be an accident involving children who had no desire or intent to harm their beloved pet,” Tybee Island police said in a Facebook post. “Our hearts remain with the family, and any who may have been affected, as they attempt to move forward from this incident.”
