UPDATE: Train derailed near Abilene business park

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A train was reported as derailed on Sunday morning on the west side of Abilene near the Five Points Business Park.

According to the Abilene Police Department, police were notified of a derailed train at W Hwy 80 and Fulwiler Road just after 10 am. Fire crews were fighting several grass-related fires east of the derailment. Heavy damage was reported to the tracks.

A spokesperson with Union Pacific said about 32 cars derailed carrying deer corn were separated and on their side. Officials on the scene said there were no injuries. Crews are en route to clean up the area.

Workers of the nearby business park told a BCH Reporter on the scene, that nothing was heard regarding a derailed train.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation. This is a developing story.
