Traveling for July 4th? Hoosiers face second highest gas prices nationally for holiday travel

The Fourth of July is almost here, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate in Indianapolis and around the state. Mileage and gas expenses are things to keep in mind when planning for any holiday festivities.

A recent study from GasBuddy, a national fuel savings platform headquartered in Dallas, revealed that Indiana residents or those traveling to and from the Hoosier State will face some of the highest gas prices when traveling on Independence Day weekend. Here's what we know.

Indiana sees an increase in Fourth of July gas prices

The Tuesday news release from GasBuddy revealed that "45% of Americans plan to head out on the road over Independence Day weekend," and Hoosiers are going to see some of the highest gas prices after Ohioians, spending 22 cents over the national average.

“For those hitting the road to celebrate Independence Day, gas prices have seen modest recent fluctuations, but most states are seeing prices near or even well below where they were a year ago,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

What is the average price of gas on the 4th of July?

The average price of gas on July 4 is expected to be $3.49 per gallon, according to the release, just a penny lower than 2023's, but more than $1.30 below the average cost in 2022.
