Tropical depression likely to form today, National Hurricane Center says
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A tropical depression is likely to form on Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
NHC meteorologists said a low pressure system is becoming better defined and organized about 1,400 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands.

Hurricane or tropical storm watches could be issued for parts of the region Friday night or on Saturday, forecasters said.
The system is likely to form over the next day or two as it moves westward toward the Windward Islands. It has a near-100% percent chance of developing in the next two days.
The NHC is also monitoring two other tropical waves, but both have a low chance of forming.
One of the systems is located over the western Caribbean Sea. It is producing widespread but disorganized show and thunderstorm activities.
“Some development of this system is possible over the northwestern Caribbean Sea or over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico during the next few days,” the NHC said.
The system has a 30 percent chance of forming over the next seven days.
Another tropical wave producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms is located a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
The NHC said this system could slowly develop early next week as it moves westward across the central and western tropical Atlantic, trailing behind the system that is currently located east-southeast of the Windward Islands. It has a 30 percent chance of forming over the next seven days.
