Tropical Wave is now 60% chance for development

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor an area in the central Atlantic Ocean for tropical activity. Currently, there is a 60% chance for tropical development in the next 7 days. Projected track is towards the peninsula of Florida by early next week. There is a low chance this disturbance reaches the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Based on the models, the higher likelihood keeps the system on the eastern side of Florida and in the Atlantic. Uncertainty with any forecast remains high until an actual system forms.

The next name on the list is Debby. No other areas are being monitored for tropical formation at this time.

Meta will pay Texas $1.4B in settlement over facial recognition software
Meta reached a $1.4 billion settlement with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday to settle a 2-year-old lawsuit related to the company's use of facial recognition software. “After vigorously pursuing justice for our citizens whose privacy rights were violated by Meta’s use of facial recognition software, I’m proud to announce that we have reached the largest settlement ever obtained from an action brought by a single state,” said Attorney General Paxton in a press release. The massive settlement stems from a lawsuit filed in 2022, alleging that Meta's past use of facial recognition technology violated the state's privacy protections.

HealthEquity is notifying 4.3 million people following a March data breach that affects their personal and protected health information. In its data breach notice, filed with Maine's attorney general, the Utah-based healthcare benefits administrator said that although the compromised data varies by person, it largely consists of sign-up information for accounts and information about benefits that the company administers. HealthEquity said the data may include customer names, addresses, phone numbers, their Social Security number, information about the person's employer and the person's dependent (if any), and some payment card information.
