Former President Donald Trump on Thursday slammed President Joe Biden’s speech explaining his decision to bow out of the presidential election and hand the baton to Kamala Harris, branding the Democratic candidate switch as a “coup.”

Hours after Biden delivered his 11-minute speech from the Oval Office Wednesday night, Trump derided the address as “terrible” and again suggested the president is too old to lead the nation.

“It was like a terrible speech and terrible delivery,” Trump told Fox News. “He looked like he was having problems.”

“It was not a good speech,” he added.

Biden, 81, told Americans that he decided to drop out of the campaign “to pass the torch to a new generation,” adding that he wanted to make room for “fresh voices, yes, younger voices.”

He vowed to continue as president until his four-year term expires on Jan. 20 when the next president will be sworn in.

Biden caved to widespread concerns across the political spectrum about his ability to beat Trump in November and serve four more years after his shaky performance in last month’s presidential debate.

After months of attacking Biden as too old, the 78-year-old Trump and Republicans are scrambling to come up with fresh attack lines against the younger and more dynamic Harris, 59.

Trump trashed Biden’s move as a “coup,” echoing GOP claims that Democrats somehow acted improperly by picking a fresh face to lead the ticket.

“I think it was a coup. They didn’t want him running,” Trump said. “The debate started everything.”
