TTUHSC School of Medicine to hold White Coat Ceremony

Jul. 24—Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine will hold a White Coat Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. July 26 at Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, 1300 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock.

The ceremony will be for its 182-member Class of 2028, the largest class ever for the School of Medicine, a news release said.

Members of the TTUHSC academic medical community will cloak students with their first white coats. Students also will recite a class-composed version of the ancient Oath of Hippocrates, in which they pledge to lead lives of compassion, uprightness and honor.

Since 1997, the TTUHSC School of Medicine has held a White Coat Ceremony for its new medical students. The ceremony has become an integral part of orientation activities at most medical schools throughout the country since it was initiated for the entering class of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City in August 1993.

The full program will be live-streamed on the official TTUHSC YouTube channel.
