Two arrested during traffic stop for meth possession

Jul. 3—Two suspects were arrested during a traffic stop July 2 after Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputies found methamphetamine in their possession.

After deputies pulled the vehicle over, the male driver informed them he did not have a license and that his mother, who was in the passenger seat, was teaching him how to drive. She also told deputies she did not have her license in her possession.

While speaking with the pair, authorities reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and they said they discovered both suspects had outstanding warrants out of Tennessee.

Deputies then performed an inventory of the vehicle and found methamphetamine and several smoking devices that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The pair were arrested and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where they were booked for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The male suspect was also booked for bringing contraband into penal institution, driving without a license and driving with defective equipment.
