Two arrested over death of Antioch man found in back of SUV in wreckage yard in December

A mysterious December homicide involving a body hidden in the back of an SUV yielded two arrests more than six months later, announced the Metro Nashville Police Department on Saturday.

The Davidson County Grand Jury indicted Jose Pablo Zavala, 38, and Rosa Carol Torres, 31, in relation to the death of 58-year-old Orlando Hernandez, according to a news release. Torres is currently in custody in Wilson County and Zavala is in custody in Dallas.

Nashville police expect Zavala to be in local custody soon.

Nashville police launched a homicide investigation on Dec. 28 after a service worker at a wreckage lot found a deceased Hernandez, an Antioch resident, in the back of a Chevrolet Blazer. Before, the Blazer was parked along Tusculum Road and a landlord had the vehicle towed due to the vehicle appearing vacant.

Hernandez was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

The grand jury indicted Zavala for slaying Hernandez, which the Nashville police news release on Saturday said happened at the 3700 block of N. Natchez Court. Zavala faces a first-degree murder charge, and Torres faces charges of witness tampering and abuse of a corpse.
