Two new routes are coming to the Wilmington Airport this fall. Here's what to know

Two new destinations will be available to visit from the Wilmington Airport starting this fall.

Avelo Airlines, Wilmington Airport’s sole commercial airline, announced Wednesday, July 24, that in early November, flights to Concord, North Carolina, and Lakeland, Florida, will be available to book.

The new North Carolina route will land at the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), which is around a 30-minute drive outside of Charlotte.

Lakeland will mark Avelo’s seventh Florida destination available to book from the Wilmington Airport and will land at the Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL), around 40 minutes from Tampa and an hour and a half from Orlando.

“We’re thrilled that Avelo Airlines is adding two new destinations to its schedule at Wilmington Airport,” said Thomas J. Cook, executive director of the Delaware River and Bay Authority, which operates the Wilmington Airport. “As the operator of ILG, the Authority is all-in to help Avelo succeed and grow their customer base here.”

Avelo's inaugural flight marked the return of commercial flight services to Delaware. The airline now offers flights to seven Florida destinations.

Beginning Nov. 7, Avelo will fly to Lakeland on Thursdays and Sundays, and starting Nov. 8, flights to Concord, North Carolina, will be available Mondays and Fridays.

The two new routes will increase the number of routes serviced from the Wilmington Airport to nine.

Many of the current available routes will be re-evaluated leading into the early fall months, which could lead to more availability changes. Flights to Sarasota and West Palm Beach, Florida, originally scrapped from ILG’s lineup, are expected to return in mid-November.

Here are the schedules to expect leading into the fall season.
