Two shot at Chula Vista taco shop

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were shot at a taco shop in Chula Vista Sunday night and police are searching for a suspect.

Chula Vista Police reports officers responded to calls for several gunshots around 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the “Tu Taco Taco Shop” in the 1400 block of Hilltop Drive in Chula Vista.

According to Chula Vista Police, the shooting appears to have happened during a disagreement between the victims and the suspected shooter, who fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old San Diego man, and a 19-year-old Chula Vista man, with gunshot wounds on the ground in front of the taco shop.

Police say bystanders provided first aid to the victims until first responders arrived and took them to the hospital. Both victims are in stable condition at this time, police said in an update Monday afternoon.

There is currently no suspect in custody. Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, white shoes, armed with a handgun.

Investigators are now working to gather more information on the suspect and to determine if the shooting was gang related.
