Two teenage girls drown at Coney Island Beach: NYPD

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Two teenage girls drowned after swimming at Coney Island Beach Friday night, according to authorities.

Police responded to an emergency call for a water rescue at 8:10 p.m. near Stillwell Avenue and Boardwalk West, according to the NYPD. The two sisters, aged 17 and 18, entered the water and disappeared from view, police sources said.

After conducting a search with the NYPD’s aviation, harbor and scuba units, divers pulled the two girls from the water, police said.

The teens were transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Coney Island where they were pronounced dead, authorities said.
