Two write-in candidates running for Hagerstown mayor
When Hagerstown voters go to the polls, for early voting or on Election Day, they will see a list, by the area they mark their ballot, for two write-in candidates for mayor, according to Washington County Election Director Barry Jackson.
Whitney Nicole Burnett and A. Mark Wilks filed as write-in candidates for Hagerstown mayor, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections website.
Wilks ran unsuccessfully for the 6th Congressional District in this year's primary election.
Because their names will not appear on the ballot, election officials created a list of officially filed write-in candidates that will be placed in every voting booth, by ballot marking devices, in provisional voting booths and at the front of polling places, according to an email from Jackson.
Early voting starts Thursday, Oct. 24, and Election Day is Nov. 5.

Bill McIntire and Stephen S. Schutte will appear on ballots for the mayoral race, although Schutte announced in August he was ending his campaign. Schutte's name will still appear on the ballot because the deadline to decline his nomination had already passed.
Mayor Tekesha A. Martinez did not run for re-election to the mayoral post. She unsuccessfully ran for the 6th Congressional District in the primary.
The mayoral race is nonpartisan.
Burnett and Wilks are the only two write-in candidates for local races, Jackson said.
To vote for an officially filed write-in candidate, voters must circle the oval next to the write-in line on the ballot for the appropriate contest and write the candidate's name in, Jackson said.
Names written in of people who are not officially filed will not be counted, Jackson said.
