U.S. Marshals arrest woman in Toledo in connection with January 2023 death of Columbus man

A woman charged with murder in connection with a January 2023 killing has been arrested in northwest Ohio.

Amira Reid, 20, was taken into custody Thursday in Toledo by members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Reid is charged with murder in connection with the Jan. 7, 2023, death of 40-year-old Juan Aleman.

According to court records, Reid and another woman had spoken with Aleman earlier in the day in text messages and agreed to go to his apartment on Riverview Drive on the city's North Side to give him a private dance.

A confidential informant told detectives Reid and the other woman went to Aleman's apartment around 7:15 p.m. that night, court records say. The women brought two men with them, who were armed.

Video from Aleman's apartment showed four people running away from the apartment about 15 minutes after arriving. Aleman's body was found two days later.

Police found Aleman's cellphone, which had been stolen, on June 17, 2024, and forensically examined it. That examination found text messages between Reid and Aleman in which the pair discuss Aleman paying Reid for sex, court records say. The messages included one from Reid that said "we here" at 7:20 p.m. on the night Aleman was shot.

Reid is currently in the Lucas County jail and will be brought back to Columbus at a future date.
