WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – It’s been two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to an abortion and allowing states to decide whether to restrict access to the procedure or not.

While speaking at the Faith and Freedom Conference in Washington D.C., on Saturday former president Donald Trump took a victory lap for helping overturn Roe v. Wade.

“With these justices, we have also achieved what the pro-life movement has fought to get for 49 years,” said Trump.

Christian conservatives make up a key part of the former president’s support.  They want him to go further on abortion restrictions, but Trump has declined to support a nationwide ban on abortion, saying the issue should be left to the states.

“It’s not up to the will of the people in each state. Some states will be more conservative, and some states will be more liberal,” said Trump.

Abortion access is likely to be a major issue going into November’s general election.

“Donald Trump and his allies, they are working from a playbook to attack freedoms,” said Vice President Kamala Harris.

Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren says Democrats in the Senate are working to protect abortion rights.

“If Donald Trump is elected to the presidency he and the extremist Republicans are coming after abortion contraception and IVF in every single state in this country,” said Warren.

On the two-year abortion ruling anniversary Vice President Harris will be traveling to Arizona and Maryland for campaign events aimed at reproductive rights.
