Vice President Kamala Harris to visit North Carolina Thursday, counter-programming RNC

Vice President Kamala Harris returns to North Carolina Thursday, the same day former President Donald Trump is expected to give his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention after becoming the party’s nominee for president.

Thursday’s visit to Fayetteville marks Harris’ second visit to the Tar Heel State in two weeks, but her first since the attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The shooting left Trump with a wound to his ear. It also left Corey Comperatore, 50, dead and two others seriously injured.

President Joe Biden and Harris briefly paused their campaign in response but have since begun traveling again across the country.

The Biden-Harris campaign has focused on North Carolina, with the candidates making frequent appearances and also sending surrogates on their behalf.

Despite winning the 2020 election, Biden lost North Carolina to Trump by 1.3%, the smallest amount of any state Trump won.

Democrats are hoping to change North Carolina’s vote in 2024.
