The University of North Carolina Wilmington Chief of Staff Bradley Ballou has accepted a new role as vice president for Executive Leadership and Management with the University of North Carolina System Office. He will transition into the new role full time as of Aug. 1.

Ballou joined UNCW as chief of staff in October 2015 under former Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli.

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare names new chief medical officer

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (LCFL) recently named Deric Weiss, MD, ACP, as its new chief medical officer and clinical director.

Weiss joined LCFL in 2020. He has since served as an outpatient physician to hospice and palliative care home patients and as medical director at its inpatient hospice care center, Dr. Robert M. Fales Hospice Pavilion, in Wilmington. Weiss was recently named 2024 Physician of the Year by the Association for Home and Hospice Care in NC.

As chief medical officer, Weiss will set standards for medical services provided by LCFL, as well as provide medical direction and guidance to its team members and volunteers. The role functions as senior medical liaison between LCFL, regional medical professionals and the community-at-large to build effective relationships to inform about LCFL’s medical services, including hospice and palliative care, and LifeCare Memory Partners.

In this position, Weiss will also provide clinical expertise at medical staff rounds or meetings with affiliated facilities. He will operate as a member of LCFL’s executive leadership team, making policy recommendations to shape the overall strategic direction and vision to fulfill the nonprofit’s mission.

Real estate veteran, Michelle Roberts has joined the Wilmington-Autumn Hall office. Roberts began her real estate career in 2007.  As the past president of the NC REALTORS Housing Foundation, Roberts led the 100 Homes in 100 Counties affordable housing initiative. Roberts has also donated her time to serve on the NCR Professional Standards Committee and the Cape Fear REALTORS Board of Directors. She helped launch the Cape Fear REALTORS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Network and recently graduated from the NCR Leadership Academy.

Prior to his transition into real estate, Muhammad spent 13 years at Hendrick Auto Group, starting as a salesman and rising to the position of sales manager. With a long history in the service industry, Wilmington native Neil Sims joined the Wilmington office at Autumn Hall. Sims also has worked for two years as an assistant home inspector.
