SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A homeless man was chained to the back of a Jeep and dragged across a gas station parking lot. The situation ended with two gas station workers ending up behind bars. It was a December night in Santa Fe when officers arrived at the Speedway at Agua Fria and Siler Rd., and learned a man was chained to a Jeep and dragged across the parking lot which sent him to the hospital.

Gas station employee Jonathan Gomez told officers that the man was sleeping outside the store when he and the gas station Assistant Manager Adrian Montoya tried to wake him up. Instead, according to police, Montoya chained the man’s feet to his Jeep and drove through the parking lot. It was captured on security camera footage from across the street.

Gomez claimed he didn’t participate and told Montoya to stop. Police didn’t buy his good intentions after he admitted to pulling out his phone and recording a video. Gomez told police he immediately deleted the video but then as officers tried to find it on his phone, he told them to check Instagram and that it needed to be deleted.

The Assistant Manager Montoya refused to speak to officers at the scene and both men were hauled off to jail. Both men were charged with kidnapping and aggravated battery. Montoya was also charged with DWI. In February, the District Attorney’s Office dropped those charges pending further investigation. The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office said they plan to refile the charges.
