Virginia Beach police officer accused of sexual assault while on duty

A Virginia Beach police officer was indicted on Monday by a grand jury on three felonies stemming from a sexual assault he is accused of committing while on duty last month.

The Virginia Beach Police Department received a complaint June 14 about the actions of Sean A. Fearon, who has been with the department since 2022. Fearon was “acting in his official capacity as a sworn police officer” at the time of the alleged assault, according to a news release.

He is charged with object sexual penetration, abduction and destruction of evidence. No further details about his actions have been made public as of Monday evening.

Fearon’s police powers have been suspended and has been placed on administrative leave, according to the department.

After receiving the complaint, the Detective Bureau launched an investigation and submitted its findings to the Chesapeake Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, which then convened the grand jury.

Police Chief Paul Neudigate said Fearon’s actions are “not reflective of the 800 sworn officers who protect and serve the City of Virginia Beach with honor and distinction every day.

“The Virginia Beach Police Department is equally as appalled as our community that one of our own faces allegations of criminal conduct arising from an on-duty interaction with a member of our public,” Neudigate said in a news release. “Such conduct is contrary to the values and standards we uphold as a department and a profession, and if true, there must be accountability.”
