Visitor dies after being struck by roller coaster at Kings Island amusement park

A man died after being struck by a roller coaster at an Ohio amusement park Wednesday, June 19.

Authorities said 38 year-old Arntanaro Nelson of Wilmington, Ohio, was in a restricted area of the Banshee roller coaster at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, when first responders found him.

ABC News reported that a park spokesperson said Nelson was “believed to have been struck by the ride.” The ride was traveling at 68 mph and Nelson is believed to have been hit around 8 p.m..

Police said Nelson was suffering traumatic injuries and was transported to West Chester Hospital, where he was flown out to University of Cincinnati Medical Center via medical helicopter.

Nelson was pronounced dead at University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Friday, June 21.

State inspectors also responded to the scene. Spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Agriculture Meghan Harshbarger said that all documentation related to the incident would be reviewed and there is no timeline for an investigation.

The ride will remain closed while authorities and park officials conduct an investigation.
