Walmart associates volunteer at NWA Food Bank

LOWELL, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Recovery efforts are ongoing after the May 26 tornadoes, and Walmart employees are stepping up to help.

Around 30 Walmart employees and interns gathered at the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank’s new Walmart.org Volunteer Center in Lowell to pack pears for families in need.

“It started really as an idea after the tornado,” Julie Gehrki, Walmart vice president of philanthropy, said. “We had a packing event where we packed boxes of cleaning supplies and relief needs during our associate’s week, as part of giving back.”

Nonprofit opens doors to inclusive NWA cycling community

Bentonville Walmart associates will continue volunteering throughout Northwest Arkansas every Saturday in August.

“We heard from people who lived here locally that they wanted to do more of it, so we’re proud to be a long-term part of the community,” Gehrki said.
