Wanted Greensboro man found dead in eastern North Carolina identified by officials

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Officials have identified the wanted man who was found dead in the eastern part of the state.

According to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday they assisted the SBI to serve a warrant for Corey Jay Reynolds, 34, of Greensboro. Reynolds was wanted by the Greensboro Police Department for statutory rape and indecent liberties with a minor, according to the CCSO.

The SBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team “learned Mr. Reynolds had traveled to Carteret County” and was staying in Newport with family.

Officials made contact with Reynolds and asked for him to come outside and speak with them, but he refused and stopped talking to the officials. After several hours, a special response team was called for deployment and entered the home around 7 p.m.

Reynolds was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
