The group of Republicans known as the House Freedom Caucus this week ousted a Cincinnati-area lawmaker from its group, according to reports from Politico and USA Today.

Washington, D.C.-based think tank Pew Research Center has described the Freedom Caucus members as among the most conservative members of Congress.

The Freedom Caucus removed Rep. Warren Davidson, a Republican from Troy whose 8th Congressional District includes Cincinnati's western suburbs in Hamilton County and all of Butler County. The Monday vote was 16-13, Politico reported, citing an anonymous source.

Why was Rep. Warren Davidson kicked out of the Freedom Caucus?

The reason, according to Politico and USA Today, was Davidson's support for Virginia state Sen. John McGuire, who defeated Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Bob Good in Virginia's Republican Primary in June.

Both Davidson and former President Donald Trump endorsed McGuire, who edged out Good by 375 votes.

Davidson tweeted on Tuesday that he was not happy with the Freedom Caucus' decision but content, adding that "Congress will soon be a better place without Bob Good, as will Freedom Caucus." He said Freedom Caucus members viewed his support for McGuire as an attack on them.

"While that was not my intent, their opposition to me was intended," Davidson said. "Nevertheless, God is good, and real friendships mend."

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also found herself ousted last year from the Freedom Caucus, tweeted her support for Davidson.

"Their loss!" Greene tweeted. "You are one of the best and smartest members of Congress. Backstabbing Bob Good and the Never Trump freedom caucus members are the problem. They have destroyed Freedom Caucus and have made it ineffective. In doing, so they have made our entire Republican majority ineffective."
