WATCH: ‘Known gang member’ hops counter after stealing $2K of cigarettes from Tampa Walgreens, deputies say

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man who police said is a “known gang member” was arrested Friday after he allegedly stole $2,000 worth of cigarettes from a Tampa Walgreens using a gun with an extended magazine, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Malcolm Green, 28, went to a Walgreens along West Hillsborough Avenue at about 1 p.m. and walked behind the counter. He lifted up his shirt, took out a plastic bag and showed a gun with an extended magazine, deputies said.

Green allegedly told the clerk to “stay quiet” while he had his hand on the gun, deputies said. He then took numerous cartons of cigarettes from the shelf and then left the store.

Deputies said officers later found Green’s vehicle at a Family Dollar on North Nebraska Avenue. He tried to escape but crashed into a vehicle and a pillar in front of the store.

Green was charged with robbery with a firearm. Green also had an active federal warrant for escape and was on federal probation for possession of a weapon.
