In his first rally since the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, will take the stage at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The campaign's selection of Michigan as the first state to hold a rally with both Trump and Vance is a signal of the state's importance in this fall's election — Trump believes he can claim Michigan like he did in 2016, flipping it back after President Joe Biden won the state by around 154,000 votes in 2020.
Michigan is part of the so-called "Blue Wall" along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, as the three states are generally seen as key for any Democratic candidate in a presidential election. Trump winning any or all of the states would likely mean a victory over Biden.
