Weather forecast forces cancellation of Austin area MLK Day marches, events moved indoors
Due to freezing temperatures in the forecast, several outdoor Austin area MLK Day events have been canceled.
Austin MLK March canceled, festival postponed
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day march in Austin scheduled for Monday Jan. 20 has been canceled. This marks the second consecutive year the march has been called off due to inclement weather.
However, the MLK Festival at Huston-Tillotson University has been postponed to Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The festival will still take place at 900 Chicon St.
MLK Walk in Bastrop canceled, indoor event still on
The planned MLK Walk in Bastrop on Monday has been canceled due to frigid temperatures.
However, the 36th annual Bastrop County Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission will hold a tribute celebration for Dr. King at 11:00 a.m. in the Bastrop Convention Center (1408 Chestnut St). The event will raise scholarship funds for students at Bastrop County high schools.
This is the second consecutive year the walk has been canceled due to inclement weather.
Leander MLK Day March canceled, celebration moved inside
The City of Leander has moved its MLK Day celebration indoors due to forecast of inclement weather. The event will now take place in the Leander Activity Center (11880 Hero Way West) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the Brighter Days Food Pantry.
Manor MLK Day Freedom Walk canceled, ceremony moved inside
The City of Manor has canceled its Freedom Walk scheduled for Monday and moved its celebration indoors. The ceremony will now be held indoors at the Manor New Tech High School Gymnasium (10323 US Highway 290 E), from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
