Webb City man sentenced for role in kidnapping and murder

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — A Webb City man will spend the next five decades in prison for his role in a kidnapping and murder case.

On Friday (6/28), a federal judge sentenced Tre Ackerson, 30, to 600 months in prison, or 50 years.

Ackerson pleaded guilty to second degree murder charges back in September of 2023. He was one of nine people charged in the July 2020 kidnapping and murder of Jolene Walker Campbell.

According to court documents, Ackerson was driving with a woman when they spotted Campbell walking on the side of the road.

They got her into the vehicle and Ackerson held her at gunpoint. The two took Campbell to a field in Mayes County, Oklahoma where Ackerson shot her several times, cut her throat, and hit her in the head repeatedly with a tire jack until she died.

The other eight suspects were sentenced in the past year for their role in the incident.
