Well-dressed North Texas serial bank robber ‘Derby Desperado’ is on the loose, FBI says

A serial bank robber known as the “Derby Desperado” is wanted by the FBI in North Texas. Authorities in Dallas and Garland are on high alert after a string of bank robberies believed to be committed by the same man.

The suspect, known for his distinctive attire and methodical approach, struck twice within a span of nine days, the FBI said in a news release.

The first incident occurred on July 3, around 1:30 p.m., when the robber targeted the Texans Credit Union located at 7220 Telecom Parkway in Garland, the FBI said. According to witnesses, the perpetrator, described as a stocky-built man, approached the bank counter while loudly conversing on a cellphone. He then handed a demand note to the teller, collected an undisclosed sum of cash, and quickly exited the premises. Witnesses reported seeing him flee the scene in a dark SUV.

Less than two weeks later, on July 12, the same suspect struck again, this time at the Capital One Bank at 2903 Forest Lane in Dallas, the FBI said. Mimicking his previous method, he entered the bank around 1:45 p.m., presented a demand note, and absconded with cash before escaping in a similar dark-colored SUV. Despite the fast police response, the Derby Desperado managed to escape, authorities said.

Law enforcement agencies have released a detailed description of the suspect based on eyewitness accounts. He is reported to be about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with hazel eyes, light or white complexion, and dark hair.

During both robberies, he was seen wearing a dark-colored suit, white shirt, and either a dark or light tie. He accessorized his outfit with brown shoes, a light fedora-style hat featuring a dark band, a surgical mask and blue surgical gloves.
