Regarding growth, the Lafayette Parish School reports Lafayette Parish outpaced state test results across areas of mastery and advancement.
“Something else the data showed is that Lafayette is number two when it comes to school systems of over 30,000 or more students, and that’s across the state, and that’s positive,” Wirtz noted.

Wirtz said LPSS Superintendent Touchet is ecstatic. He believes the job is complete once every student reaches the above level. Wirtz mentioned while some students might not achieve perfection, that is the aim.
“Our teachers, our administrators, the people on the ground who spend time with these students; it’s a credit to them and their hard work and dedication to making sure that Lafayette Parish Public School students emerge into life as great, educated, well-rounded citizens,” Wirtz said.
