West Noble Middle School teacher arrested on charges of possession of child pornography
Aug. 6—LIGONIER — A West Noble Middle School teacher was arrested by Indiana State Police on charges of possession of child pornography. He has also been placed on administrative leave by the school until the conclusion of the investigation.
Greg Riegsecker, 57, Ligonier, was arrested by ISP's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on Monday. He is charged with: one count of possession of child pornography, a Level 5 felony, and two counts of possession of child pornography, both Level 6 felonies.
Riegsecker is a sixth-grade science/civics teacher and has been a long-time high school boys tennis coach.
The arrest came after the task force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a statement from ISP. That tip led to a search warrant being served by ISP at a home located in the 6000 block of West C.R. 500 North, Ligonier, and Riegsecker's arrest.
"Of public concern, it should be noted that Greg Riegsecker is employed as a middle school teacher at West Noble Middle School," the statement from ISP reads. "However, it should be noted that the investigation has not revealed any evidence at this time that would suggest any local children were involved or depicted in the alleged crimes. The investigation is ongoing."
Riegsecker was taken to the Noble County Jail, where he awaits an initial hearing that is anticipated to take place at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday in Noble County Circuit Court.
West Noble Superintendent Nathan Lowe issued a statement about Riegsecker's arrest:
"The safety of our students is the top priority at West Noble Schools. We will always err on the side of caution when student safety is involved. Any action or lack of action that endangers our students cannot and will not be tolerated. Conduct of any form that places our students at risk will be dealt with directly and severely.
"On Monday, August 5th, I was informed of an investigation of a West Noble Middle School teacher involving child pornography. At present, it is believed that no West Noble students were involved. The teacher is Greg Riegsecker. This is an ongoing investigation.
"After learning of the investigation, Riegsecker was placed on administrative leave and instructed not to be on any West Noble School premises or interact with any West Noble students. Upon the completion of law enforcement's investigation, West Noble School Administration will take appropriate action regarding Riegsecker.
"To avoid interfering with and possibly jeopardizing law enforcement investigations, West Noble Schools will not be commenting further on this matter at this time."
