West Valley foreign national under federal indictment for meth trafficking

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A federal grand jury has indicted a foreign national living in West Valley City after he allegedly attempted to traffic 38,000 grams of meth in Utah.

Fermin Castro-Tovar, 25, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after court documents state he sold drugs to an undercover agent during a controlled purchase.

A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states agents with the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force made several controlled purchases with Castro-Tovar. Surveillance footage also allegedly showed him accessing a storage unit days before agents seized around 24,000 grams of suspected meth. Another 3,400 grams were found at Castro-Tovar’s residence, and an additional 11,000 grams were found at another apartment.

Castro-Toval is scheduled to appear at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City Friday, June 14.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
